Paw casting and Animal SculptureWhen I am not walking and training dogs I can be found creating beautiful works of art. My Living room is a truly multi purpose room in that is is used as my office, studio and is also the place where visiting dogs sleep. I like nothing better than to work with dogs asleep at my feet. Or running riot as is often the case!
My paw casts and sculptures are a great way to immortalise your pets forever. The paw casts are also a great way to capture how small an animal was as a baby. Paw moulds are created by immersing a pets paw into a solution of alginate. Alginate is made from seaweed and is the same material dentists use to make casts of your teeth. It is 100% natural and safe for your pet should they ingest any. It will however stick to hair so the paw needs to be covered in Vaseline first. It sets within a minute or two so your pet doesn't need to keep still for long. He or She does need to be comfortable with having their paw placed in liquid though, it is a good idea to practise before booking a paw casting session to make sure your pet is comfortable with the procedure. Once the mould is created it is then filled with Plaster of Paris and left to set before the mould is removed. The cast needs to be left to dry for several days and then can be painted. I offer a choice of finishes such as bronze effect or a realistic painted finish. My sculptures are hand built using cement over an armature and are suitable for displaying indoors or out. Once painted I finish with several coats of waterproofing agent. I build my sculptures to last. Each one is unique. I can work from photographs but always feel it is better for me to meet the animal so I can truly capture their personality. In 2015 I entered my first art competition (Gibraltar International Artist of the Year) with a sculpture of a family of monkeys and was delighted to win second prize. I am currently working on this years entry - more monkeys of course! I have given a guide price for each item. This doesn't include my travel expenses or delivery costs. They are listed seperatley at the bottom of the page. You are of course more than welcome to travel to me and then there would be no extra costs involved. I live near the village of Riogordo, which is 40 km north East of Malaga. Contact me, Rachel for a quote or to arrange a casting session on: Email; [email protected] or telephone: 678189019.
